The medical establishment defines a number of medical conditions and illnesses as “silent killers.” Diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnea, mesothelioma, osteoporosis and a number of different types of cancer such as breast cancer, lung cancer, rectal cancer, and colon cancer are rather well known silent killers.

These medical diseases are known as silent killers because early on in the disease there are commonly few if any symptoms to suggest that an issue exists. Then as the medical disease develops, on the other hand, and as the problems start to surface, a medical calamity can take place.

Abusive and Unhealthy Drinking Is a Silent Killer

I declare that abusive and hazardous drinking is also a silent killer. If truth be told, some individuals can drink for a considerable number of years without suffering from any critical alcohol related issues in their lives. When irresponsible and abusive drinking is repeated for a considerable number of years, it can be noted, damaging alcohol effects become more observable and more demanding. Perhaps the best illustration of what I am saying occurs during the transition from alcohol abuse to alcoholism.

Undeniably, quite a few alcohol related issues can be camouflaged and fairly easily hidden while an individual involves himself or herself in irresponsible drinking. When the drinker in reality becomes a lifelong alcohol abuser or an alcoholic, it can be stated, the unhealthy alcohol outcomes become quite discernible and more critical. Unfortunately, this information about alcoholism and alcohol abuse doesn’t seem to be focused upon as much as it ought to be.

Areas in Life That are Negatively Affected by Unhealthy and Excessive Drinking Over Time

What are a few of the areas in life that are negatively affected over time by repeated and continuous irresponsible and hazardous drinking? When individuals first start to involve themselves in abusive and excessive drinking, they are normally unaware of what their abusive drinking is doing to their health, to their finances, to their mental health, to their jobs, and to their relationships.

As the heavy and abusive drinking continues, on the other hand, it normally results in commitment, marital, relationship, communication, and friendship difficulties and frequently results in divorce and affairs. Similarly, many, if not most individuals who engage in alcohol abuse in the end suffer from alcohol induced health issues such as alcohol poisoning, hangovers, sleep disturbances, and a loss of energy. Other alcohol induced medical issues include the following: stomach ulcers, sexual problems, nerve damage, vitamin deficiency, and liver disease.

Moreover, many, if not most alcohol abusers in the end suffer from alcohol induced financial problems. Paradoxically, while a number of drinkers whine about their financial difficulties, they usually make their financial circumstances even worse by spending more of their money on alcoholic beverages.

Similarly, abusive and heavy drinking normally results in stress management, anger management, and time management issues. Not only this but, many, if not most people who engage in alcohol abuse, due to their excessive and hazardous drinking, in the long run exhibit employment difficulties such as absenteeism, making mistakes on the job, showing up late for work, alcohol related accidents, and poor performance evaluations.

In addition, irresponsible and hazardous drinking ultimatley results in different mental health problems such as denial, obsession, anxiety, depression, and extreme mood swings. And lastly, it should come as no surprise that people who engage in alcohol abuse can get a “driving under the influence” arrest almost any night or day of the week due to their irresponsible and excessive drinking and driving.

The Bottom Line

The lesson to be learned is this: people who involve themselves in irresponsible and hazardous drinking need to learn how to drink in moderation and responsibly or get the alcohol detox and the alcohol therapy they need. This is important for people who abuse alcohol so that they can either drink responsibly and in moderation or start to lead an alcohol free life and stay away from the huge amount of alcohol related issues described above. Plainly, getting exceptional alcohol abuse help will be important along these lines.

It is also important for people who engage in abusive drinking to either figure out how to drink in moderation or stop drinking so that they can stay away from a life of alcohol dependency. In conclusion, alcohol abusers need to refrain from hazardous and abusive drinking so that they can stay away from the alcohol induced silent killers that are related to irresponsible and abusive drinking. Again, obtaining high quality alcohol abuse rehab will obviously go a long way toward attaining this goal.
