From the supplier: California Insurance Commissioner Charles Quackenbush has taken control of the San Diego, CA, insurance firm Golden Eagle Insurance Co after a court decision allowing his department to do so. The firm’s reinsurer had $66 million in unsecured loans to its founder John Mabee, and there was evidence of manipulation of records to cover up loss reserves totalling over $138 million at the firm. The Insurance Department is to help protect policyholders and reorganize the firm.
